Jackson County • February 18, 2025
Good morning, Jackson County. When it comes to serving others, our community is showing its heart in spades this February. As Wellston's police officers stand united to preserve their local dispatch service - a testament to their commitment to hometown emergency response - our local churches are opening their doors wide with hospitality that would make any grandmother proud.
From the First Church of the Nazarene's monthly salute to our veterans with hot breakfast to Hope Methodist's community lunch spreading warmth one pulled pork sandwich at a time, Jackson County proves that breaking bread together still builds the strongest communities. These gatherings remind us that whether it's answering emergency calls or filling empty plates, service to others remains the backbone of our small-town spirit.

Officers from the Wellston Police Department are pushing back against a potential plan to outsource their dispatch operations to Jackson County's 9-1-1 Center. Sergeant Jered Warrens led the resistance by addressing the City Council during a recent meeting. The proposed change would eliminate the department's in-house dispatching system, a move that has created significant concern among local law enforcement personnel.
