Good morning, Gallia County. Just 1,300 feet—that's the distance separating residential homes from a proposed biomass plant near Point Pleasant that would burn wood chips for electricity generation. The West Virginia project, linked to a larger hydrogen production initiative that received a $62.5 million state loan, has raised environmental concerns as it awaits permit approval, despite promises the facility would stay below major pollution thresholds.

Meanwhile, hearts and wallets opened wide on National Dog Day when Mason County Career Center FFA students delivered nearly $300 in supplies to their local animal shelter, bringing comfort to some of the 3.1 million dogs entering U.S. shelters annually. Closer to home, Gallia County's school board has approved substantial changes that will ripple through the district for years—including staff salary increases through 2027, a $6.1 million community reinvestment agreement expected to create 15 new jobs, and numerous personnel appointments across schools.

🌿 West Virginia considers permit for biomass plant near residential homes. The facility, proposed by MGS CNP 1 LLC, would burn wood chips to generate electricity near Point Pleasant, capturing carbon dioxide for carbon credits. Located roughly 1,300 feet from homes, the plant would emit nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and other pollutants while staying below major-source thresholds. The project is linked to Fidelis Energy's larger hydrogen production plans in Mason County, which received a $62.5 million forgivable state loan and has sparked environmental concerns about unproven carbon capture technology.
