Gallia County • July 2, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. A century of service speaks volumes about a community's character. As the Point Pleasant Rotary Club marks 100 years of "Service Above Self," their century-long commitment to everything from fair activities to student scholarships reminds us that the most meaningful institutions are built one volunteer hour at a time. Mayor Tatterson's official proclamation honors not just today's members but the legacy of those 20 visionary men who gathered in 1924 to plant seeds of service that still bear fruit.
While some celebrations look back, others meet present needs with open arms. The GriefShare program coming to First Church of the Nazarene this summer creates sacred space for healing journeys, while hundreds gathered at "Praise Along the River" for gospel music and spiritual renewal. From wooden cross keychains to Ivan Parker's determined performance despite travel challenges, these gatherings demonstrate how our community continues to lift spirits along the riverfront and beyond.

🌟 Point Pleasant Rotary Club marks a century of community service. The club celebrated its 100th anniversary with an official proclamation presented by Mayor Amber Tatterson to Club President Tanya Handley. Founded in April 1924 by 20 local men, the organization has dedicated countless volunteer hours to projects including fair activities, holiday fundraising, senior services, and providing dictionaries to elementary students. The club, part of Rotary International, embodies the motto "Service Above Self" while awarding scholarships annually to local high school students.
🙏 Gospel music filled the riverfront as hundreds gathered for worship. The fourth annual "Praise Along the River" event in Point Pleasant, West Virginia drew one of its largest crowds yet on Sunday. Founded by former Mayor Brian Billings in 2022, the celebration featured renowned gospel soloist Ivan Parker, who performed despite travel difficulties, and Sincere Revival from Ohio. Pastor Ray Kane delivered a message about maintaining faith through life's setbacks, while the first 200 attendees received wooden cross keychains.
