Gallia County • June 30, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. The crown has come home to Appalachia! Lawrence County native Olivia Fosson's recent Miss Ohio victory has county commissioners beaming with pride as she prepares to represent our region on the national stage. This achievement, alongside Lawrence County EMS graduating their first class of EMTs, reminds us that excellence grows in our hills and hollows—whether in pageantry or public service.
The soundtrack of summer extends well beyond Independence Day this year, with music filling the air across our river communities through August. From the French Art Colony's "Hot Summer Nights" to country star Phil Vassar at the county fair, locals won't need to travel far for entertainment. Meanwhile, two of our own—Grace Heffernan and Jazahera Moore—have secured prestigious Appalachian Ohio scholarships, joining over 300 regional students benefiting from $700,000 in educational investment that will echo far beyond this summer's melodies.

In other business, Lawrence County EMS reported success with their first basic EMT class, with five of six graduates already hired by the agency.
🎵 River Cities promise a summer of music beyond July Fourth. Gallipolis and Point Pleasant communities have packed their calendars with concerts and festivities stretching into August. The French Art Colony's "Hot Summer Nights" series features weekly performances throughout July, while Gospel in the Park returns to Gallipolis City Park. The Gallia County Junior Fair (July 28-August 2) boasts an impressive lineup including country star Phil Vassar and "The Voice" winners A Girl Named Tom. Across the Ohio River, Point Pleasant's Riverfront Artists Series continues with Friday night performances all month long.
