Meanwhile, creative expression flourishes in multiple forms as the Point Pleasant Writers Guild members share springtime stories and fascinating career journeys, from band singing to missionary work. History buffs won't want to miss Bossard Library's special exhibit on the Marquis de Lafayette, complete with a presentation by historian Noel Poirier on May 17 and period-inspired children's games celebrating the bicentennial of the Revolutionary hero's grand tour across America. ✍️ Writers Guild members share stories of spring and career journeys. The Point Pleasant Writers Guild in West Virginia recently gathered to share creative works about springtime, featuring pieces from Sue Underwood, Carol Newberry, and Patrecia Gray. Members also discussed their diverse career paths, with Gary Grain evolving from band singer to educator, and Patrecia Gray transitioning from piano teacher to nurse and missionary. The Guild, which meets twice monthly at the Mason Country Library, also acknowledged the passing of Dr. Mel P. Simon and congratulated Tom Dunn on becoming the new Point Pleasant River Museum director.
🕰️ Victorian-era fantasy comes alive at Ohio railroad museum. The Gallipolis Railroad Freight Station Museum hosted its third annual Steampunk Festival, offering free tours of historic railroad cars and attracting costumed enthusiasts from across the region. Visitors enjoyed live music, craft stations, and vendors selling themed merchandise and refreshments. Museum vice president Jerry Davis explained that steampunk's connection to the Victorian era and steam locomotives made it a perfect theme for the 1901 station. The literary genre, which reimagines a world dominated by steam technology, originated in the 1980s and draws inspiration from Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.
🇫🇷 Revolutionary hero Lafayette's legacy comes alive in Ohio library exhibit.
