Gallia County • May 6, 2025
Good morning, Gallia County. Time travel may not exist, but this weekend, visitors to the Gallipolis Railroad Freight Station Museum came pretty close. The museum's third annual Steampunk Festival transformed the authentic 1901 setting into a Victorian sci-fi wonderland, complete with costumed enthusiasts, vintage railroad cars, and the perfect marriage of steam-powered history and imaginative futurism. As museum vice president Jerry Davis noted, sometimes the most magical connections happen where past and fantasy collide.
In other local developments, the Mason County Courthouse is receiving a much-needed $20,750 facelift to prevent water damage to the historic 1956 structure. And for those seeking creative inspiration, the Point Pleasant Writers Guild recently gathered to share springtime stories and personal journeys – from musical careers to missionary work – proving once again that our community's most valuable treasures are the stories we share with one another.

🚂 Victorian sci-fi comes alive at Ohio railroad museum's Steampunk Festival. The Gallipolis Railroad Freight Station Museum hosted its third annual celebration Saturday, offering free tours of historic railroad cars and attracting costumed enthusiasts from across the region. Visitors enjoyed food, merchandise, live music, and a costume contest amid the museum's authentic 1901 setting. Museum vice president Jerry Davis explained the perfect thematic match: the station's steam locomotive era aligns with Steampunk's Victorian-era industrial aesthetic. The festival represents a creative partnership with Bossard Memorial Library to promote the historic station through this imaginative genre.
🏛️ Mason County Courthouse gets $20,750 facelift to stop water damage. The County Commission approved additional funding for the exterior restoration project, which aims to repair cracked limestone and prevent further water infiltration. The project is funded by a $100,000 grant from the West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Authority. Commissioners also approved $1,000 from the opioid settlement to complete outfitting a sheriff's department truck and $30,000 for a new EMS simulator. The courthouse, originally built in 1956, has suffered damage to its exterior and front steps.
✍️ Writers Guild members share stories of spring and career journeys.
