Good morning, Fayette County. Red ribbons are unfurling across Highland County as officials declare October 27-31 "Red Ribbon Week" with this year's puzzle-themed approach to drug prevention. Local schools are gearing up with dress-up days and essay contests offering scholarships up to $500, while community partners rally behind the 1988 Congressional initiative. The timing feels particularly apt with Highland County celebrating an 11.83-percent boost in October sales tax receipts—a financial puzzle piece falling neatly into place after September's decline.

Meanwhile, the Highland County land bank continues chipping away at demolition projects with $131,000 still available and $230,000 more coming annually for 2026-27. In more urgent news, a 77-year-old fertilizer truck driver was airlifted to Columbus Thursday after his Freightliner overturned on Anderson Road, requiring a complex rescue operation that kept State Route 41 SE closed for over four hours while crews worked tirelessly to clear the scene.
