Good morning, Fayette County. January marks not just a new year but a new chapter for Washington Court House as longtime service director Gary Dean prepares for retirement. The transition comes as the city balances preservation and progress, with council members discussing grant applications for inclusive playground equipment while winter preparations kick into high gear. Leaf collection starts in late October, giving residents plenty of time to rake up those autumn piles while snow equipment stands ready for whatever winter brings.

Tourism could see a boost with the county's newly announced $5,000 grant program for organizations looking to draw visitors to our area. Applications for 2026 funding are due by November 24, potentially bringing fresh energy to local attractions. Meanwhile, a sobering reminder of public safety concerns came Wednesday when a Grove City police standoff ended with an officer injured but stable after a dangerous confrontation with an armed intruder that ultimately turned fatal.
