Fayette County • October 13, 2025
Good morning, Fayette County. Extraordinary acts of courage are living among us every day. From Cassie Cisar steering a bus to safety despite being shot, to Officer Christofer Perry talking a man back from the edge—these local heroes will be recognized at the upcoming American Red Cross Hero Awards ceremony. Their split-second decisions and selfless actions remind us that heroism isn't just for comic books; it's happening right here in our community.
Meanwhile, Highland County is literally planting the seeds for America's 250th birthday celebration with 18 White Oak trees—one for the county and one for each township. As these saplings take root at Liberty Park, planning begins for the 2026 semiquincentennial festivities. Closer to home, our seniors can enjoy everything from fish sandwiches to lasagna at the Commission on Aging, with activities ranging from Chair Volleyball to Spooky Bingo rounding out an active October calendar.

🌳 Highland County plants 18 White Oaks to launch America's 250th celebration. The ceremonial tree planting at Liberty Park marked the official beginning of the county's participation in America 250-Ohio, with one tree for the county and one for each of its 17 townships. Local officials and community members gathered on September 26 to witness the planting of Ohio's state tree, chosen for its longevity and historical significance. The event kicked off planning for a multi-day celebration in July 2026, which will include historical reenactments, walking tours, exhibits, and a Revolutionary War memorial dedication. Community members will have opportunities to volunteer and participate as the county prepares for the semiquincentennial celebration.
