Good morning, Fairfield County. Buried treasures from our region's creative past are finding brilliant second acts this summer. In Lancaster, the pioneering legacy of Gay Fad Studios has been resurrected by Dave and Jason Annecy, who discovered a "Lost Collection" of 1963 glassware designs and are now preserving Fran Taylor's groundbreaking mid-century modern aesthetic using the same techniques that made her women-led studio revolutionary in 1939.

Meanwhile, in Millersport, 74-year-old Karen Dennis proves creative expression knows no age limit. The master baker transformed her lifetime of experience into Karen's Bakery and Custom Cakes in 2021, where her artistic talents shine through both stunning custom cakes and her signature "devil dogs" (described delightfully as "HoHos on steroids"). Her story offers a sweet reminder that it's never too late to turn passion into purpose – something worth celebrating in any season.

🎨 A forgotten glassware icon gets a second life in Lancaster. Gay Fad Studios, founded by pioneering entrepreneur Fran Taylor in 1939, revolutionized mid-century modern glassware with innovative techniques and women-led design. After the company's tragic closure in 1962 due to copyright theft, Dave and Jason Annecy revived the brand in 2022, discovering and reproducing the "Lost Collection" of original 1963 designs. Using the same techniques and materials as the original studio, they're preserving Taylor's legacy while introducing new pieces that honor her groundbreaking approach to glass art.

🧁 At 74, Karen Dennis turned her baking dream into reality. Her Millersport bakery specializes in custom cakes, pies, cookies, and her signature "devil dogs" - chocolate cake with whipped topping and fudge she describes as "HoHos on steroids." Since opening in 2021, the former Kroger cake designer and Victoria's Secret employee has attracted customers from across central Ohio and supplies baked goods to local restaurants. Dennis encourages others to pursue their dreams regardless of age, saying, "You don't want to be sitting in a rocking chair when you're 80-some years old saying would have, could have, should have."
