🏠 Growth pains

Fairfield County • March 28, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. The clash between growth and tradition is playing out in real time as Canal Winchester faces a pivotal decision on the Miller Farms development. With 444 proposed housing units across 95 acres heading for an April 7 vote, longtime residents are drawing a line in the sand—some even threatening a referendum if approved. At stake is the elusive "small town feel" that many consider essential to the community's identity, weighed against promises of increased tax revenue and expanded housing options.

Mother Nature, meanwhile, isn't waiting for anyone's approval. This weekend's weather forecast reads like a plot with rising action—Friday's scattered showers build toward Saturday's pleasant intermission before Sunday delivers the dramatic climax. As temperatures climb into the 70s, the 10TV Weather Impact team has placed most of Ohio under a severe storm alert, with the most significant threats expected as Sunday night transitions into Monday morning. Consider this your cue to secure outdoor furniture.

🏗️ Canal Winchester debates huge housing project amid citizen pushback. The controversial Miller Farms development could face a crucial vote on April 7, with some residents threatening a ballot referendum if approved. The updated plan includes 118 single-family homes, 221 apartment homes, and 105 townhomes on 95 acres, with 40 acres reserved as open space. While developers tout benefits like increased tax revenue for schools and improved housing options, citizens worry about traffic, water issues, and preserving the area's "small town feel." Long-time resident Stacey Boumis argues the development contradicts the city's Community Plan, which designates the area as rural preserve.
