💰 Money matters

Fairfield County • March 27, 2025

Good morning, Fairfield County. "Show me the money" isn't just a movie catchphrase—it's the frustrated sentiment of Ohio healthcare providers facing Medicaid payment delays since 2022. Despite official denials from the state, major hospitals including OSU Medical Center have confirmed the bottlenecks, which reportedly began when contractor Gainwell Technologies altered the claims processing workflow. The disconnect between public statements and healthcare reality highlights a concerning trend in administrative accountability.

Meanwhile, brighter developments are taking shape locally. Fairfield Homes is addressing our aging population's needs with The Reserve at Hunter Trace, offering 95 affordable units for seniors by 2026. And in an economic boost, Cirba Solutions' battery recycling operation received a $150,000 state grant to install rail infrastructure at its Lancaster facility—part of a $450 million investment that processes 15 million pounds of batteries annually while strengthening our local industrial footprint.

💰 Ohio Medicaid payment delays frustrate healthcare providers despite official denials. Two major hospital systems have confirmed experiencing delayed payments since the state changed its claims processing system in 2022. Former health director Greg Moody identified the problem as stemming from a workflow reversal when contractor Gainwell Technologies was brought in, creating bottlenecks at the fiscal intermediary. Though a Medicaid program manager described the issues as "severe" at a public meeting, the Ohio Department of Medicaid maintains there are no problems with their systems. Both Ohio State University Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital have verified the ongoing payment delays.
