Good morning, Fairfield County. Just when you thought the donut world couldn't get any sweeter, Central Ohio is about to experience a pastry revolution. Parlor's croissant-style donuts are rolling into Powell and Lewis Center, bringing their buttery, layered creations that have been taking the nation by storm since 2019. It's like the cronut craze meets Midwest charm, complete with keto and vegan options for those trying to have their donut and eat it too.
While some paths are opening up in the culinary world, others are temporarily closing - specifically, a stretch of Ohio University's bike path for some much-needed stream repairs. But perhaps the most meaningful path being forged is Michelle Mays' FosterHub, creating vital bridges for youth aging out of the foster care system. Now that's the kind of community innovation worth celebrating.

🚲 Ohio University bike path closes for crucial stream repairs next week. The construction project, focusing on stream bed stabilization behind the campus greenhouse, will affect a 50-60 foot section of the path on February 3rd and 4th. Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access to areas before and after the construction zone. Safety barricades and signs will guide users around the work area. Protective mats will be installed to prevent damage to the path during the renovation work.
🍩 Croissant-style doughnuts are invading Central Ohio with new Parlor locations. The rapidly-expanding chain will open its first area stores in Powell and Lewis Center, featuring unique "layered" doughnuts made from stacked buttery dough. Over 20 varieties will be available, including keto, gluten-free, and vegan options, plus breakfast sandwiches. The brand, which started in Indiana in 2019, already has dozens of locations nationwide, with just one other Ohio spot in Cincinnati.
🏠 Former foster child launches lifeline for youth aging out of system. Michelle Mays founded FosterHub in 2023 to provide housing, jobs, and mental health support for foster youth transitioning to adulthood. The Ohio-based non-profit comes at a critical time, as approximately 5,000 children will age out of the state's foster care system within five years. Currently, Ohio has about 16,000 children in foster care, highlighting the significant need for transition support services.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
