🌊 Rising waters

Clermont County • April 7, 2025

Good morning, Clermont County. April is certainly living up to its reputation for bringing showers, but this weekend's forecast has meteorologists raising serious alarms. The National Weather Service has issued multiple weather alerts for our region taking effect Sunday, with potentially hazardous conditions moving through Kentucky and threatening our area. These warnings aren't arriving in isolation – they're part of a broader system creating dangerous flooding situations across the Midwest and South.

The situation has become particularly critical along the Licking River, where rising waters have prompted evacuation orders in Northern Kentucky communities. With the river expected to crest at 39.5 feet Sunday night – just shy of "major" flood stage – residents near Virginia Avenue and 45th Street in Covington are being directed to a Red Cross shelter at Latonia Elementary School. Further downstream, Falmouth and Butler face mandatory evacuations as floodwaters threaten to transform roadways into waterways.
