The beloved theme park is bringing back Halloween Haunt for its milestone 25th anniversary starting September 19, followed by the family-friendly Tricks and Treats event, and capping the year with the winter wonderland of Winterfest. These announcements arrive just as the park prepares to open its gates for the regular season on April 19.

Beyond seasonal festivities, our region continues to showcase impressive talent and development. Cincinnati singer Courtney Hyde is making waves in the local music scene while advocating for women musicians who face steeper challenges in gaining recognition. Meanwhile, downtown's transformation continues right on schedule, with the $208 million Duke Energy Convention Center renovation promising modern amenities including a spectacular rooftop deck with skyline views when completed in early 2026.

🎃 Kings Island brings back beloved holiday events this fall. The Ohio theme park announced the return of Halloween Haunt for its 25th anniversary, running select nights from September 19 through November 1. Family-friendly Tricks and Treats begins September 21, featuring activities, crafts and candy for costumed children. Winterfest will light up the park November 28 through December 31 with ice skating, holiday shows and festive decorations. The announcement comes as Kings Island prepares to open for the season on April 19, with summer festivals including Grand Carnivale and Food and Wine Festival.

🎵 Cincinnati singer Courtney Hyde is breaking barriers in local music. As half of the duo Courtney & Nick Acoustic, she performs covers spanning country, bluegrass, and blues while advocating for women musicians through organized showcases. Hyde believes women face tougher scrutiny in the male-dominated music industry, noting they must be "exceptionally good" to receive the same recognition as men. Despite challenges, she remains focused on growing as a guitarist, collaborating with new artists, and releasing her first professionally recorded original single in the coming year.

🏢 Cincinnati's $208 million convention center makeover is right on schedule. The Duke Energy Convention Center renovation, set for completion by January 2026, will transform the 750,000-square-foot facility with modern features including a rooftop deck with skyline views. Project leaders from 3CDC gave city officials a tour Tuesday, showcasing plans for wider concourses, food and beverage alcoves, and a new solar array. Though keeping the same overall footprint, the redesign maximizes usable space with divisible hall areas and a new facade allowing more natural light.

Spencer Theron "Tim" Foote III, 68, of Fairfield, passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2025. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was known as a rebellious athlete in his youth at Catholic school. As an adult, Spencer enjoyed discussing sports and politics, being a devoted fan of Xavier basketball and the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his two children, four grandchildren, his father, and four siblings. A memorial service will be held on March 14th at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, with visitation preceding the service.

Gloria Dockery, 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. Born on May 22, 1957, in Cincinnati, Gloria's family has not yet scheduled a funeral or memorial service but plans to notify loved ones when arrangements are made. Robert Edward Dyer, 88, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, after a lifetime in Cincinnati where he was known for his warmth and community dedication. He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Marcia, five children, twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Robert had a fulfilling career at Fisher Body in Hamilton, Ohio, while maintaining his passions as a runner and artist. His dedication to Corpus Christi Church was evident through 40 years in the choir, volunteering at the food pantry, and serving in various leadership roles.

Robert C. "Bob" Richter passed away peacefully at age 94, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bob was a Navy veteran who served as a corpsman during the Korean War and represented the Navy as an athlete. He was known for his quick wit and humor, and worked as a respected science teacher in the Reading and Oak Hills School Districts while maintaining a passion for the outdoors, especially bass fishing.

Nancy Susan Kimura, 72, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and joy. She dedicated her career as a Unit Coordinator at Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, California, where her kindness touched both colleagues and patients. Nancy is survived by her sisters Judy Young and Becky Miller, along with several nieces, and was known for her passion for crafting and tireless volunteer work. Her selfless spirit and contagious laughter made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor her memory.

A creative spirit, Russell enjoyed numerous hobbies including motorcycle riding, classic car restoration, drawing, painting, woodworking, and blacksmithing. He is survived by his wife Pamela, his mother Marilyn, his children Joshua, Emily, and Kyle, his four grandchildren, and his siblings Deborah and Randall. A celebration of Russell's life will be held on March 14, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home in Goshen, with burial to follow at Graceland Memorial Gardens in Milford, OH.

Ronald L. Losekamp, aged 67, passed away on March 9th, 2025, after a brave three-month battle with bile duct and pancreatic cancer. A dedicated small engine technician at Bramble Mower Service for over 30 years, Ron is survived by his spouse Patty, daughters April and Amber, granddaughters Claire and Emma, and numerous siblings and extended family members. He was known for his love of hunting, fishing, poker, and the outdoors, as well as being deeply devoted to his family, particularly his daughters and granddaughters. Ron's family requests donations to place a memorial bench in the park where his granddaughters play, rather than flowers.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Earl Joseph Hickson Jr., as well as her mother, three children, two grandchildren, and three siblings. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Codling. He spent his final decade happily in Florida, playing golf and following his favorite sports teams, with graveside services scheduled for March 14th at Mt. Orab Cemetery.

For over 30 years, he served as Director of maintenance at Saint Peter in Chains Cathedral while actively ministering to the underprivileged through hospital visits and communion. A skilled mechanic and man of deep faith, Neal was devoted to his wife MaryAnn, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage, and cherished his family including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy of service continues through donations to charities supporting the underprivileged in lieu of flowers.
