🚌 Transit transformation

Good morning, Westerville. Transit connections are about to bridge Columbus communities in a significant new way. COTA's proposed Line 30 would create a vital artery linking OSU campus with Upper Arlington, Hilliard, and Dublin—filling coverage gaps and connecting existing routes. This transportation evolution, made possible by last November's LinkUS initiative, won't materialize until 2026, but community input is being sought now through upcoming public meetings and an online survey.

Meanwhile, architectural history is for sale in Clintonville, where a rare Lustron home has hit the market for $380K. These enameled steel marvels—only 2,500 were built in the late 1940s—represent an innovative solution to post-WWII housing shortages. In sobering news, the Mifflin Township police force is navigating crisis after a traffic stop left two officers shot, representing 40% of their small department and prompting neighboring agencies to step in with support.

🚌 COTA plans new bus route linking four major Columbus communities. The Central Ohio Transit Agency has proposed Line 30, which would connect OSU campus and Wexner Medical Center with Upper Arlington, Hilliard, and Dublin. The route would fill coverage gaps while providing connections to existing bus lines, with one terminus at the John Herrick Transit Center and the other at OSU Dublin Outpatient Clinic. Community feedback is being sought through a public meeting on June 24 and an online survey, with service not expected to begin until September 2026. The new line is part of expanded transit services made possible by voter approval of the LinkUS initiative last November.

🏠 Rare steel Lustron home hits market in Columbus for $380K. The 1,021-square-foot Clintonville property represents one of just 2,500 prefabricated enameled steel homes built by the now-defunct Lustron Corporation in the late 1940s. These unique dwellings were designed to address post-WWII housing shortages with affordable models that could theoretically be assembled in just three days. Despite financial troubles that led to the company's 1950 bankruptcy, surviving Lustron homes have become historical attractions with examples displayed in museums and even available as vacation rentals. The current listing has generated curiosity from sightseers, though no serious buyers yet.

🚔 Two officers shot, one still hospitalized after Mifflin Township traffic stop. Daveonte Dixon, 21, is accused of shooting the officers on May 28, while Jayla Call's bond was reduced from $250,000 to $50,000 for allegedly helping him hide. One officer remains hospitalized with a "long road ahead" and may not return to work due to his injuries, according to Township Trustee Chair Kevin Cavener. The shooting has severely impacted the small department, with neighboring agencies stepping in to help as the two injured officers represent 40% of their police force. Cavener expressed frustration that Dixon had previously been released on community control.
