🚋 Trolley tribute time

Westerville • February 26, 2025

Good morning, Westerville. Talk about a full-circle moment in Columbus history: a rescued San Francisco trolley is about to become a powerful tribute to Granville T. Woods, the brilliant Black inventor once dubbed "the Edison of his time." This forgotten piece of transit history, salvaged from the old Spaghetti Warehouse, will soon inspire a new generation while celebrating the innovator who quite literally powered America's streetcar revolution.

The spirit of innovation continues to pulse through our region, from the $265,000 being poured into our vibrant arts scene at the Big Arts Night celebration to groundbreaking research at Ohio State that's shedding critical light on pharmaceutical safety. It's a reminder that Central Ohio isn't just preserving history – we're actively shaping the future.

🚊 Historic trolley becomes tribute to Columbus' "Black Edison" inventor. A San Francisco trolley, rescued from the demolished Spaghetti Warehouse in Columbus, will honor Granville T. Woods, the pioneering Black inventor who created crucial power systems for trolleys nationwide. The Rickenbacker Woods Foundation plans to showcase the restored trolley in a new green space, complete with an interactive visual experience of 1900s Columbus streetcars. Foundation director Mike Aaron hopes the display will inspire local youth, particularly in the African American community, showing them that greatness can emerge from anywhere. The project brings Woods' legacy full circle, as East Livingston Avenue was one of Columbus' first streetcar suburbs.
