Good morning, Vinton County. Rural healthcare heroes rarely make global headlines, but Dr. Hafeez Hassan is breaking that mold. The Adena cardiologist has earned a spot on the prestigious international "30 in Their 30s" list, bringing world-class cardiac care to southern Ohio's doorstep. With over 500 procedures annually since 2021, his expertise means critical heart patients no longer face hours-long journeys for life-saving treatments—a reminder that excellence can thrive far beyond metropolitan medical centers.

Meanwhile, history comes alive this month as America's oldest Emancipation celebration marks its 162nd year at the University of Rio Grande. The two-day event features historical reenactments, Lincoln-Douglass debates, and exhibits honoring the Tuskegee Airmen under the theme "Freedom, Faith & Fellowship." It's a powerful counterpoint to sobering news from Athens County, where a 35-year-old man faces life imprisonment after being convicted of murdering his father in a 2022 altercation.
