Vinton County • April 25, 2025
Good morning, Vinton County. April showers bring May flowers, but at O'Bleness Hospital, this month has delivered something far more precious—the gift of life. Hospital staff formed a human Donate Life ribbon on April 11, honoring tissue and placenta donors while encouraging more community members to register as organ donors. These simple acts of generosity create ripples of hope that extend far beyond our county lines.
Meanwhile, the halls of Ohio University continue shaping tomorrow's leaders. From Alaina Dackermann's transformation from shy freshman to confident Director of Photography at The Post, to the Voinovich School's three flexible paths toward public service excellence, OU proves that education isn't just about textbooks. With Executive MPA graduates reporting salary increases exceeding 30% over five years, it seems saying "yes" to new opportunities—whether in photography or public administration—might be the best career advice around.

🫀 OhioHealth celebrates lifesaving gifts during National Donate Life Month. Throughout April, O'Bleness Hospital partnered with Lifeline of Ohio to honor organ, eye, and tissue donors through special events and awareness activities. Hospital staff formed a human Donate Life ribbon during a ceremony on April 11, celebrating four tissue donors and 38 placenta donors from O'Bleness in 2024. The hospital displayed donor family quilts, student artwork, and educational resources to encourage community members to register as donors at the Ohio BMV or online.
🎓 College transformed a shy freshman into her best self. Four years ago, Alaina Dackermann arrived at Ohio University terrified and alone, but found her place at The Post newspaper where kindness from others made her feel welcome. As Director of Photography, she made it her mission to create that same sense of belonging for newcomers. Her journey included covering presidential elections, traveling with sports teams, and learning to say "yes" to opportunities despite self-doubt. Dackermann now recognizes that her college family became her home away from home, teaching her the value of embracing chances rather than holding back.
🎓 Ohio University offers three paths to public service leadership excellence. The Voinovich School's Master of Public Administration (MPA) program equips professionals with practical skills for government and nonprofit careers through flexible on-campus, online, and hybrid executive formats. Students gain real-world experience through 200+ annual grants and projects, with 93% of Executive MPA graduates finding jobs within three months. Recent graduates report significant career advancements, including promotions and salary increases exceeding 30% over five years. The program's hybrid Executive option allows working professionals to balance education with career and family commitments while building valuable professional networks.
