🚧 Parking lot purgatory

Vinton County • April 4, 2025

Good morning, Vinton County. Sometimes progress moves at the pace of a parked bulldozer. That's the frustrating reality at the Vinton County Senior Citizens Center, where despite securing two separate grants, their parking lot expansion sits in limbo with equipment idle for months. The project faces complications requiring retaining walls and specialized piling to prevent landslides, leaving one concerned employee wondering if completion will stretch into year's end.

Meanwhile, feline friends throughout the region have something to purr about. The Pet Orphanage is bringing free spay/neuter clinics to Logan this April, with registration opening April 5th at the Hocking County Fairgrounds. Cat owners should note the early bird doesn't just get the worm – it gets the veterinary appointment. With registration running on a first-come basis and lines typically forming well before the 9:30 start time, this popular service represents a valuable opportunity for responsible pet ownership in our community.

🚧 Senior center parking lot stalled despite two grants. A Vinton County Senior Citizens Center employee expressed frustration over delays in expanding their parking lot. The project initially received a $10,000 grant from Daybreak Adult Daycare that expired in December. County Commissioners secured another grant, but progress remains minimal with a bulldozer sitting idle for two months. The expansion requires a retaining wall with driveway piling to prevent landslides. The concerned employee believes completion might not happen until year's end, prompting her to inform county residents about the situation.
