The initiative aims to raise $45,000 for a permanent memorial that will serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for veterans, families, and community members. Project coordinator David Lamb reports fundraising is nearing its goal but still needs additional community support. 🐘 Two Columbus Zoo elephants are pregnant at the same time. This historic first for the zoo involves matriarch Phoebe (due in fall) and first-time mom Sunny (due by August), both carrying calves fathered by Sabu from Cincinnati Zoo. The pregnancies are significant for the endangered Asian elephant species, which faces unsustainable population numbers in accredited zoos. These calves will make additional history as the first at Columbus to be vaccinated against elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus, the leading cause of death among zoo elephants. Keepers are optimistic that experienced mother Phoebe will help guide Sunny through her first pregnancy.

🔗 Two Ohio traffickers sentenced to life imprisonment for brutal crimes. This violent ring forced women into prostitution to fund drug purchases and committed murder. James Dukes-Johnson and Michael Davis received life sentences with parole eligibility after 96 and 81 years respectively, following their May convictions on charges including aggravated murder and human trafficking. Four other co-defendants, including Marysville resident Alexias Carr-Johnson, have pleaded guilty to related charges and await sentencing. The Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, comprising multiple law enforcement agencies, conducted the investigation as part of ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking.
