
🎬 Bellefontaine's drive-in theater brought movies under the stars for decades. Dale Elleman Sr. opened the innovative outdoor cinema in August 1948 on an eight-acre tract next to the Detroit Aluminum & Brass plant. The theater featured a massive 48x56-foot screen, individual car speakers with volume controls, and even car heaters for cold weather. With space for 350 vehicles, affordable admission (50 cents for adults, free for children under twelve), and amenities like a central refreshment stand and "moonlight effect" lighting, the drive-in encouraged families to "come as you are." After more than thirty successful years of operation, the beloved Bellefontaine Drive-in Theatre finally closed its doors in the 1970s.

🎆 Central Ohio sparkles with Fourth of July celebrations across the region. From Columbus's Red, White & BOOM! on July 3 to numerous community events throughout early July, residents have plenty of options to celebrate Independence Day. Most communities offer parades, family activities, and spectacular fireworks displays, with festivities beginning as early as June 28 in Pataskala. Dublin will host a fishing derby and parade, while Westerville plans a concert series and games before their fireworks show at 10 p.m. on July 4th.

🌍 Ohio teen wins prestigious scholarship to study Arabic in Morocco. Winifred Bodin, a Benjamin Logan High School senior, beat out thousands of applicants to receive the competitive National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship from the U.S. State Department. She'll spend six weeks in summer 2025 living with a host family, taking intensive language classes, and immersing herself in Moroccan culture. As one of just 440 selected students nationwide, Bodin will also serve as a citizen ambassador fostering cross-cultural understanding. The program aims to increase the number of young Americans fluent in languages critical to national security and global competitiveness.
