Good morning, Summit County. Free admission days are sweeping through Akron Zoo this November like autumn leaves across our neighborhoods. From Election Day's complimentary entry to Veterans Appreciation Day honoring our military members to the beloved Shop-a-Holidays event featuring 60+ local vendors, there's never been a better time to visit our local wildlife treasure without opening your wallet.

Meanwhile, a significant leadership transition is underway at Summa Health, where Dr. Cliff Deveny will step into an emeritus role after guiding the organization through financial storms and pandemic challenges since 2017. As he helps ensure a smooth succession, county voters are facing important decisions on Issue 2, which would cap property tax collection increases at 3% annually when valuations rise. Early voting is already underway at the Board of Elections' new Tallmadge Avenue location before polls officially open November 4.

🏥 Summa Health CEO steps aside after steering organization through turbulence. Dr. Cliff Deveny will transition to CEO emeritus and strategic advisor starting January 1, while remaining actively involved through 2026. Since returning in 2017, he helped stabilize Summa Health during financial challenges and the pandemic, strengthening its position as a trusted healthcare provider. The leadership change comes as the organization stands on "solid ground" financially and strategically, with its partnership with HATCo representing a significant investment in its future. Deveny emphasizes this transition is about ensuring long-term continuity and thoughtful succession planning rather than departure.

🗳️ Summit County voters face crucial decisions on Issue 2 this November. The proposed charter amendment aims to shield property owners from major tax increases when property valuations rise by limiting county collection increases to 3% annually. Voters will also decide on the ADM Board's levy renewal with a 0.5-mill increase, three school district tax levies, and multiple municipal issues. Eight candidates are competing for four Akron school board seats during a challenging period for the district.
