Good morning, Summit County. A fire-breathing dragon with 85 teeth and glowing eyes is about to descend upon Akron! Don't worry—it's just Smaug, the masterfully crafted creation for Ohio Shakespeare Festival's production of "The Hobbit." Costume designer Marty LaConte has transformed Tolkien's beloved characters into visually stunning theatrical reality, right down to Thorin Oakenshield's meticulously detailed belt buckle. Middle Earth has never felt so close to home.

Fall traditions are blooming across our region as Hale Farm prepares for its Historic Harvest Festival across two October weekends, complete with Johnny Appleseed performances and 19th-century demonstrations amid peak foliage. Meanwhile, hunger-fighting efforts received a significant boost as Smucker announced the donation of its only retail store—plus 32 acres and $1 million—to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, transforming commerce into compassion right here in our community.
