🎭 Shakespeare's "King Lear" comes alive under Akron's summer stars. The Ohio Shakespeare Festival will present the classic tragedy at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens' lagoon from July 31 through August 17. The 1606 play follows King Lear's fateful decision to divide his kingdom among his three daughters based on their declarations of love. Performances run Thursday through Sunday evenings with gates opening at 6 p.m. and tickets available for $15, with a special dinner event option on August 15.
💰 FirstEnergy beats earnings expectations despite revenue shortfall. The Ohio-based utility company reported second-quarter net income of $268 million, or 46 cents per share. Adjusted earnings reached 52 cents per share, exceeding Wall Street's predicted 50 cents. However, FirstEnergy's revenue of $3.38 billion fell short of the $3.41 billion analysts had forecast. The company maintains an optimistic outlook, projecting full-year earnings between $2.40 and $2.60 per share.
🌆 Twenty young civic innovators win $5,000 each to transform their cities. The Knight Emerging City Champions fellowship program has selected 20 community leaders from eight U.S. cities for its 2025-2026 cohort. Recipients will implement projects ranging from sensory sanctuaries for neurodivergent festivalgoers to community gardens and public space innovations. The program, funded by the Knight Foundation and powered by 8 80 Cities, provides each champion with seed funding, tech support, and a three-day immersive learning experience in Toronto. Since launching in 2015, the fellowship has catalyzed over 130 public space and civic engagement projects across Knight Foundation communities.
