Good morning, Summit County. Italian grandmothers have long known that food is love, and soon Kent residents won't need to travel far to experience that culinary affection. Gigi's Ristorante and Market is bringing nonna-inspired cooking to downtown by late August, transforming the former Bricco space into a dual-concept venue with white tablecloth dining and a lively bar area, plus a market for those wanting to bring a taste of Italy home.
While your taste buds await that Italian debut, your ears can start preparing for an epic sonic experience. Alternative rock powerhouses A Day To Remember and Yellowcard will kick off their massive "Maximum Fun Tour" at Blossom Music Center on September 5. Meanwhile, commuters have reason to celebrate as ODOT launches a $110-million expansion of I-77, adding a third lane in both directions between Route 21 and the Ohio Turnpike—though you'll need to navigate construction until the project's completion in 2027.

🍝 Kent's downtown gets a taste of Italian grandma's cooking. Gigi's Ristorante and Market will open in the former Bricco space on South Depeyster Street by late August. Owner Kathleen D'Angelo named the restaurant after her grandmother nickname "Gigi," aiming for a homey feel with white tablecloth dining on one side and a livelier bar area on the other. The venue will feature a market selling wine, cheese, Italian meats, and pre-made food for convenient takeout. Part of Taproot Hospitality Group, Gigi's promises a more approachable price point than the company's other upscale venues.
🎸 Two rock giants unite for massive 36-city tour this fall. A Day To Remember and Yellowcard will kick off their "Maximum Fun Tour" at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on September 5. The tour brings together two influential alternative rock bands, with A Day To Remember known for blending pop-punk with harder elements and Yellowcard recognized for their melodic pop-punk sound. State Champs and Boundaries will open all shows, with tickets available to the general public starting June 6. The North American tour will visit Toronto, Pittsburgh, and other cities before concluding in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 22.
🛣️ Akron's I-77 gets a major traffic flow makeover. ODOT has launched two significant projects to add a third driving lane in both directions between Route 21 and the Ohio Turnpike. The $110-million investment aims to ease congestion for travelers heading toward Cleveland. While construction is underway, two lanes will remain open for traffic, though drivers should expect occasional ramp closures. The entire expansion project is scheduled for completion by 2027.
