Good morning, Summit County. The sweet sound of musical investment is echoing through Northeast Ohio as Grammy winner Laufey establishes a foundation supporting youth orchestras—with Cleveland's Youth Orchestra among the first beneficiaries. The 26-year-old jazz sensation, who credits childhood scholarships for her meteoric rise, will bring her talents to Blossom Music Center this August for what promises to be a magical symphony collaboration. Meanwhile, West Akron's Kerr Park has undergone its own harmonious transformation with resurfaced courts, safer walkways, and new amenities ready to debut at a community celebration on May 3.
Over in Suffield, laughter recently filled the air during the sold-out "Laugh at the Lake" comedy night, while children's delight was equally palpable at the Easter Egg Hunt. Looking ahead, Mother's Day flower enthusiasts should mark their calendars for the Lions Club Rose Sale on May 10, offering fresh dozens at $25. For aviation buffs, something truly spectacular approaches—all three Goodyear Blimps will converge at Wingfoot Lake State Park on June 3, creating a once-in-a-century aerial spectacle worth witnessing.

🎵 Grammy winner Laufey launches foundation to support youth orchestras. The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra has received a grant as part of the initiative that aims to provide resources for music education. "The support and scholarships I received as a child have directly led to the career I have now," said the 26-year-old Icelandic jazz singer who won a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2024. Other inaugural grant recipients include Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and Carnegie Hall's national youth ensembles. Laufey will perform with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center on August 7 in a special symphony collaboration.
🌳 Akron's Kerr Park springs back to life with major revitalization. A community celebration on May 3 will showcase the park's improvements, including resurfaced tennis/pickleball courts, safer walkways, and new furnishings. Visitors can enjoy free tennis and pickleball lessons, food trucks, and live music at the event running from noon to 3 p.m. The park, selected as an Akron Parks Challenge recipient in 2021, also received a new playground through collaborative community efforts. Local leader E.J. Brinson describes the investment as "a transformative step" that will serve as "a catalyst" for safety, economic growth, and community unity in West Akron.
🐰 Suffield community buzzes with laughter, egg hunts and upcoming events. The Suffield League recently hosted its 14th annual "Laugh at the Lake" comedy night, a sold-out event featuring comedians and a magician at St. Nicholas Party Center. Their Easter Egg Hunt at Wingfoot Lake State Park was a hit, with children racing to find eggs and meeting the Easter Bunny. The Suffield Lions Club will hold its Mother's Day Rose Sale on May 10, offering fresh roses for $25 per dozen. Meanwhile, Goodyear Blimp enthusiasts should mark June 3 for the 100th anniversary celebration at Wingfoot Lake State Park, where all three blimps will gather for an air show.
