🎣 Fishing for futures

Summit County • March 28, 2025

Good morning, Summit County. Tragedy struck the waters of Mogadore Reservoir last month when a helicopter pilot's early morning flight ended in disaster after striking power lines just 50 feet above the water. The dramatic accident, witnessed by a nearby fisherman, claimed the life of 52-year-old Anthony Jones and has prompted an ongoing NTSB investigation as the aircraft remains submerged in 20 feet of water.

On a brighter note, young minds have plenty to celebrate this spring. The Akron-Summit County Public Library kicks off the Week of the Young Child starting April 7, offering free books and literacy activities for children ages 2-5. Meanwhile, budding outdoor enthusiasts can cast their lines at a free fishing derby on May 21, where 3rd and 4th graders will learn environmental stewardship along the canal. With equipment and refreshments provided, this hands-on experience might just hook a new generation on the joys of fishing.
