🎵 Musical tapestry

Summit County • March 25, 2025

Good morning, Summit County. Northeast Ohio's musical heartbeat will pound louder this weekend as the 330 Day Concert transforms Akron Civic Theatre into a celebration of regional sound. With 21 local artists performing classics from hometown heroes like Devo and Nine Inch Nails—backed by a nine-piece house band—this free event showcases the remarkable talent cultivated in our corner of Ohio, with nearly half the performers being women who are carrying our musical legacy forward.

Meanwhile, the fabric of our community takes both literal and figurative form this spring. The "Tapestry of Unity" project invites residents to weave their hopes and prayers into a collaborative art installation at Summit Artspace, while a vocal coalition raises concerns about Summa Health's proposed $485 million sale to a venture capital firm. Both stories, though vastly different, highlight the same powerful thread—Summit County residents actively shaping the future of the place they call home.

🏥 Akron coalition fights $485 million hospital sale to venture capital firm. The "Summa Is Not For Sale" group is demanding a six-month delay for public hearings and further review of nonprofit Summa Health's proposed deal with HATCo. Coalition members fear the private equity takeover could lead to hospital closures, reduced services, and lower quality care based on experiences in other communities. Their demands include an independent appraisal, community representation on the foundation board, and guarantees against price hikes and service cuts. Summa's spokesperson defended the deal as a "transformational partnership" determined by fair market valuation.
