Good morning, Stark County. Downtown Canton just scored a major economic win as Hilscher-Clarke Electric commits to a $3.8-million headquarters project in the Canton Brewing Company building. Thanks to a newly approved tax incentive package, the company not only stays put but promises 100 new jobs—quite the testament to the city's ongoing revitalization efforts despite competition from neighboring communities trying to lure businesses away.

Football fever arrives early next year as the NFL announced Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers will face off in Canton's Hall of Fame Game on July 31, 2025. The matchup features two playoff contenders from last season and coincides with Enshrinement Week festivities. Meanwhile, chicken enthusiasts can mark their calendars for May when Texas-based Layne's Chicken Fingers makes its Ohio debut in Parma, adding yet another competitor to the state's increasingly crowded poultry restaurant landscape.

🏙️ Canton keeps major company downtown with tax deal. City Council approved tax incentives for Hilscher-Clarke Electric to move its headquarters to the Canton Brewing Company building. The $3.8-million project includes a 10-year, 75-percent tax abatement, securing the company's future in Canton despite other communities trying to lure them away. Mayor Bill Sherer noted the plan will maintain all current jobs while promising 100 new positions. Though the downtown brewery is currently closed, the mayor indicated it will eventually reopen.

🍗 Texas chicken chain finally lands in Ohio this May. Layne's Chicken Fingers is opening its first Buckeye State location in Parma, expanding beyond its Texas roots. Known for its "Soon to be Famous chicken fingers" and signature sauce, Layne's began in College Station in 1994 and has since spread to several states. The restaurant enters a competitive Ohio market already filled with numerous chicken-focused chains including Dave's Hot Chicken, Raising Cane's, and KFC. Chicken's growing popularity as America's most consumed meat has fueled this restaurant trend.
