📚 Library lockdown

Stark County • April 9, 2025

Good morning, Stark County. A startling false alarm rattled downtown Canton on Monday when the Stark Library's main branch was evacuated following reports of an armed individual inside the building. Police conducted a thorough search but found no threat, though the incident prompted officials to close all library branches for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure. Normal operations resumed Tuesday morning with the library emphasizing their ongoing commitment to patron safety.

Meanwhile, despite a $14 million funding rejection from ODOT, Canton isn't abandoning its West Tuscarawas improvement project near Aultman Hospital. The eight-year initiative, featuring a center median and two roundabouts, continues to move forward as Mayor Bill Sherer and his team explore alternative funding sources. While the mayor has expressed preference for neighborhood improvements, he remains committed to completing this long-planned project that's still in its design and property acquisition phase.
