Good morning, Scioto County. There's no place like home for local talent this weekend, as the Paramount Players bring "The Wizard of Oz" to Ashland with all the flying effects and technicolor magic that made the 1939 film a classic. Director Rick Payne's creative staging promises to transform brown-toned Kansas scenes into the vibrant world of Oz, complete with a local cast ready to follow that yellow brick road to standing ovations on October 17-18.

Speaking of impressive performances, freshman phenom and Minford native Conkel isn't just settling into collegiate soccer—she's dominating it. The county's all-time female scoring leader needed just 20 minutes to net her first collegiate hat trick during Shawnee State's 8-0 victory over Kentucky Christian. Her explosive debut earned her River States Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, proving that sometimes the most remarkable talents are found right in our own backyard.
