Good morning, Scioto County. The sound of Appalachian music will echo across Kentucky this weekend as the sold-out Healing Appalachia festival brings Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, and Blackberry Smoke to the stage. Beyond the star power, there's heart behind these harmonies—the entire event supports recovery communities throughout the region, transforming entertainment into empowerment at a time when our communities need it most.

Speaking of transformation, Jack & the Bean Coffee is brewing more than just espresso at their Kenova location. The nonprofit coffee shop just celebrated two years of providing meaningful employment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. From teenagers to seniors, these baristas are gaining independence one cup at a time. Meanwhile, local drivers should note the county's roadwork schedule for September 22-25, with lane restrictions planned throughout the area—weather permitting, of course.

🎸 Healing Appalachia concert brings star-studded lineup to Kentucky this weekend. The sold-out three-day event, which supports recovery communities in Appalachia, features major artists including Tyler Childers, Chris Stapleton, and Blackberry Smoke. Organized by Childers and the Hope in the Hills nonprofit, the festival has relocated from West Virginia to the Boyd County Fairgrounds in Ashland. Blackberry Smoke, scheduled to perform Saturday, is approaching their 25th anniversary as a band and recently lost founding drummer Brit Turner to cancer in March 2024. The Atlanta-based group will soon release a "Best of" vinyl collection dedicated to Turner's memory.

☕ Kenova coffee shop transforms lives through inclusive employment. Jack & the Bean Coffee, a nonprofit employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, just celebrated its second anniversary at its Kenova location. What began as pop-up events with founder Melanie Shafer Adkins and her son Jack, who has autism, has grown into a vibrant operation with over 10 employees ranging from teenagers to seniors. The weekly Wednesday coffee shop serves as a skill-building platform where baristas develop independence through gradually decreasing support from job coaches. Beyond serving espresso drinks and treats, the business has expanded to catering, community events, and will soon launch an online store for merchandise.
