Good morning, Scioto County. The healing power of music takes center stage this weekend as Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton headline the sold-out Healing Appalachia festival at Boyd County Fairgrounds. With 20,000 attendees expected and an army of 1,000 volunteers in recovery helping run the event, this musical gathering represents something far more meaningful than just entertainment—it's a community-powered response to the opioid crisis that could funnel up to $500,000 to regional nonprofits while generating millions in economic impact.

Meanwhile, a somber note as Portsmouth resident James Ruggles faces serious charges including aggravated murder following a disturbing discovery in Lucasville earlier this month. On a warmer thread, the Material Hugs quilting guild is stitching together something special for local veterans—personalized red, white, and blue Quilts of Valor that will wrap heroes in handmade gratitude during OHIO Southern's Veterans Day ceremony on November 6, continuing a national tradition that has honored over 250,000 service members.
