Good morning, Scioto County. Appalachian pride is shining brightly as Lawrence County native Olivia Fosson made history as the first Miss Ohio from our region. After three attempts and last year's runner-up finish, the law student's perseverance has paid off spectacularly. Her "Body Neutral" platform brings a refreshing message about healthy, sustainable lifestyles while her victory gives our corner of Ohio some well-deserved recognition on the national stage.
The royal theme continues locally with Rachel Leith, Josiah Stallard, and Cate Litner claiming their crowns at the Lawrence County Fair's opening ceremonies. Meanwhile, Coal Grove's Family Fun Days transformed Paul Porter Park into a community celebration where even the police chief took the plunge in a popular dunk tank. With face painting, games, and inflatable attractions, this 30-year tradition continues growing thanks to increased volunteer participation—proving that sometimes the best summer memories don't require admission fees.

👑 Lawrence County native makes history as first Miss Ohio winner. Olivia Fosson from Kitts Hill was crowned Miss Ohio on June 21, after competing three times and placing as runner-up last year. The law student plans to use her platform "Body Neutral" to promote healthy, sustainable lifestyles for all. Fosson emphasizes the importance of Appalachian Ohio representation and has already begun appearing at local events like South Point's Party in the Park. She will represent Ohio in the Miss America pageant later this year.
👑 New royalty takes the throne at Lawrence County Fair. Rachel Leith was crowned queen, Josiah Stallard became king, and Cate Litner won princess during Sunday's opening ceremonies. Leith, who shows heifers and attends Ironton High School, competed alongside her sister Hannah who was named second runner-up. The new king was "knighted" with a show stick, continuing a tradition started in 2023, while outgoing queen Isabella Kerns reflected on her memorable reign before heading to college to study pre-vet medicine. All three winners expressed surprise and excitement about their new roles representing the fair.
🎡 Coal Grove's Family Fun Days brings free joy to families. The annual event at Paul Porter Park featured face painting, games, food trucks, and a popular dunk tank where kids tried to sink the police chief. Organized by the Coal Grove Betterment Club for at least 30 years, the two-day celebration included live music performances and inflatable attractions donated by local businesses. Jay Sherman of the Betterment Club credited increased community involvement, including support from the Ladies Auxiliary and new club members, for the event's success. Organizers hope this growing participation will help expand the beloved tradition in coming years.
