🧊 Cool relief ahead

Good morning, Scioto County. As July temperatures climb, relief is on the way for our most vulnerable neighbors. Starting Monday, Ohio's Summer Crisis Program begins providing cooling assistance to eligible households, offering everything from bill payment help to air conditioning units. Last year alone, the program delivered $13.5 million in benefits to over 44,000 households across the stateβ€”a critical lifeline during the hottest months of the year.

While one program works to keep residents cool, Pike Water Inc. is heating up the legal landscape with their federal lawsuit against 15 chemical companies over PFAS contamination. Despite detecting these "forever chemicals" in water sources, the company assures customers their drinking water remains safe and below federal limits. The legal action aims to ensure the financial burden of monitoring and remediation doesn't flow downstream to customers across the six southeast Ohio counties they serve.

πŸ’§ Ohio water company fights "forever chemicals" with lawsuit against manufacturers. Pike Water Inc. has assured customers their drinking water is safe despite detecting PFAS chemicals in water sources. The company filed a federal lawsuit in April against 15 chemical companies, including AGC Chemicals Americas Inc., seeking to recover costs for monitoring and remediation. Testing from 2023-2024 confirmed that treated water levels remain below federal safety standards. The lawsuit aims to ensure customers don't bear the financial burden of addressing contamination in the six southeast Ohio counties Pike Water serves.
