Good morning, Scioto County. Time has a way of transforming vibrant landmarks into fading memories, but Joe Unger's collection of over 300 vintage postcards is preserving Ironton's disappearing history one image at a time. His treasured artifacts showcase everything from the brass spittoons of Schachleiter's Café to the once-magnificent Marlow Theater where his parents shared their first date—visual time capsules of a bygone era when these buildings stood in their full glory.

While postcards capture the past, Dawson-Bryant Elementary students are bringing history to life through their annual Living Wax Museum performances. Fourth graders transformed into everyone from Bob Ross to Usain Bolt, delivering first-person speeches that blend historical research with public speaking skills. Meanwhile, Coal Grove residents should note that Rowe Street will close Monday and Tuesday for necessary repairs, with Village Administrator Joe Ross available to address concerns at 740-442-5999.

🏙️ Vintage postcards preserve Ironton's disappearing history. Joe Unger's collection of over 300 postcards showcases his beloved hometown's past glory, from historic buildings to bustling businesses now faded or gone. His passion began with his father's shoe store tradition of displaying postcards sent by customers from across America. Unger treasures rare finds like the Schachleiter's Café card, complete with brass spittoons and memories from elderly residents who still recall the establishment. He laments the deterioration of once-magnificent structures like the Marlow Theater, where his parents had their first date.

🎭 Elementary students bring history to life through wax museum performances. Fourth graders at Dawson-Bryant Elementary School transformed into historical figures ranging from Bob Ross to LeBron James during their ninth annual Living Wax Museum event. Thirty-five students researched their chosen figures, created costumes, and delivered first-person speeches to touring students from third through fifth grades. Teacher Lori Deer explained that while not a required assignment, the voluntary project helps students develop both historical knowledge and public speaking skills. The creative presentations included Karissa Harrison portraying painter Bob Ross, Griffin Lackey as political candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and Jace Mack as Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt.
