Scioto County • March 19, 2025

Good morning, Scioto County. The skies above Portsmouth are about to get a lot more interesting as the city's new "Natural Portsmouth Series" takes flight this Friday. What was once a critically endangered species with just four nesting pairs in Ohio has soared to an incredible 841 nests statewide—and now local eagle enthusiasts will have front-row seats to witness this conservation success story along our riverfront, complete with expert guides and spotting equipment.

Culture continues to thrive despite temporary closures, with the Southern Ohio Museum hosting Ohio literary figure Chuck Salmons this Friday while navigating renovation challenges. For those seeking variety, this week's community calendar overflows with options—from the Portsmouth Wind Symphony's Thursday performance to Sunday's Sports & Trading Card Show in New Boston. And for the ultramarathon-curious, Ohio's Backyard Ultra running event kicks off Friday, offering both athletic challenge and spectator intrigue.
