Scioto County • January 28, 2025
Good morning, Scioto County. Michael Jordan had his 63-point playoff explosion, and now Ironton has Braden Schreck's own signature performance. The Fighting Tigers' star didn't just light up the scoreboard with 32 points - he etched his name in the history books by crossing the 1,500-point threshold, proving that some local legends are written one bucket at a time.
While Schreck was busy making headlines on the hardwood, another inspiring story of determination was unfolding in our medical community. Kevin Duncan showed that not even open heart surgery could stop him from achieving his dreams, balancing a master's degree, full-time work, and family life with the kind of grit that makes our community proud. Meanwhile, our hearts go out to the family of Leo Molenda, as police work to solve a tragic hit-and-run that has left our community searching for answers.

🏀 High school star Braden Schreck's 32-point explosion leads Ironton to victory. The talented player, who recently received an offer from Morehead State, achieved a career milestone by scoring his 1,500th point during Saturday's win over Coal Grove. Schreck's outstanding week continued with another dominant performance Friday, where he went perfect from three-point range in Ironton's record-setting win against Portsmouth. The Fighting Tigers (8-4) shot an impressive 54% from the field as they strengthened their Ohio Valley Conference position.
❤️ Cardiac surgery couldn't stop this determined healthcare professional's dreams. Kevin Duncan, an Ashland native and sonographer, faced open heart surgery while pursuing his master's degree and working full-time in 2024. Despite the challenging recovery from surgery to repair a bicuspid aortic valve, Duncan completed his coursework, graduated magna cum laude, and took his national registry exam for radiologist assistants. He managed to balance his intensive schedule with family life, coaching his sons' football team while working up to 60 hours per week. Through it all, Duncan lived by his motto: "We're not whiners, we're winners."
🚗 Hit-and-run driver leaves Ironton man dead in mysterious street tragedy.
