Ross County • October 27, 2025
Good morning, Ross County. Between the bridges and back roads of our community, Tuesday's pre-dawn hours delivered a scene straight from an action movie when a 2025 Mack truck veered off U.S. 35, broke through a fence, and plunged beneath the bridge with trailer still attached. The 10-hour recovery operation that followed might be the most dramatic traffic incident of the week, but it wasn't the only challenge keeping local authorities busy—Chillicothe police responded to 13 incidents on Saturday alone, including serious investigations into missing juveniles and a rape case.
Meanwhile, a significant transformation is underway for community wellness as the Pike County and Ross County YMCAs prepare to join forces. The upcoming merger, slated for January 2026, will create the Scioto Valley YMCA—a strategic combination that leadership believes will strengthen services through shared resources and expertise. After successful collaboration since November 2023, this union promises to enhance programming across both counties for years to come.

🤝 Two Ohio YMCAs joining forces to create stronger community impact. The Pike County and Ross County YMCAs will merge on January 1, 2026, to form the Scioto Valley YMCA. This strategic combination follows successful shared services and management agreements that began in November 2023. A taskforce of board members from both organizations unanimously recommended the merger after thorough financial analysis showed positive performance improvements. Leadership believes the merger will leverage combined skills and resources to better serve their communities through economies of scale.
🚚 Truck plunges off U.S. 35 bridge in dramatic early morning crash. The incident occurred Tuesday at 3:02 a.m. when a 2025 Mack truck driven by 25-year-old Herby Doriscat veered off the westbound lanes in Ross County. The vehicle crossed the median, drove between bridge supports, broke through a fence, and slid down an embankment, coming to rest beneath the bridge with trailer still attached. Remarkably, no injuries were reported despite the severity of the crash. Recovery efforts lasted approximately 10 hours, with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction while crews worked to remove the vehicle.
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
