Good morning, Ross County. Downtown Chillicothe has transformed into an Instagram hotspot thanks to Marco Chavez's eye-catching new mural that turns an ordinary building into a giant postcard. The retro-styled artwork, created by the Mexican-American artist who turned his "side hustle" into a thriving business, joins the growing collection of public art beautifying our streets. While some folks are busy snapping selfies, others are cheering on four-legged athletes at the annual Oktoberfest celebration.
Speaking of celebrations, tiny champions with even tinier legs stole hearts at the Wiener Dog Races, where "Boris" claimed the top title while competitor "Sadie" showed that victory isn't everything with a sweet post-race kiss for her owner. Meanwhile, local law enforcement had their hands full with a busy Saturday of traffic stops, theft reports, and disorderly conduct calls across the city—proving that even in our picturesque postcard town, there's never a dull moment.

🎨 Downtown Chillicothe's new selfie-worthy mural transforms building into giant postcard. Created by Marco Chavez of "Square Ghost Creative," the retro-styled artwork on the Chamber building has been attracting photo-takers for over two weeks before its official ribbon cutting. The mural uses innovative vinyl wrap technology that can be heated and removed if needed. Chavez, whose family moved from Mexico to Ohio, turned his "side hustle" into a full-time creative business last year. The eye-catching installation joins other artistic additions to downtown, including another Chavez-created mural for Ohio University.
🌭 Tiny legs, big hearts: Dachshunds dash to Oktoberfest glory. Local crowds gathered in Chillicothe, Ohio, for the annual Wiener Dog Races during the 2025 Oktoberfest celebration on September 20th. A dachshund named "Boris," handled by Cindy Shade of Frankfort, claimed the overall championship title. The family-friendly event featured heartwarming moments, including when competitor "Sadie" gave her owner Holly Baker an affectionate kiss after completing the second heat. Photographer Ty Wright captured the excitement as the short-legged speedsters entertained the festive audience.
🚔 Chillicothe police had a busy Saturday with arrests and incidents citywide. Officers conducted multiple traffic stops resulting in citations for suspended licenses and warrant arrests. Police also responded to theft reports on Vincent Street, trespassing complaints on West Water Street, and criminal mischief on North Bridge Street. A disorderly conduct call involving fighting was handled on Back Road, while officers served multiple warrants at the Ross County Jail. The department also worked a traffic crash at North Bridge and East Second streets, with several cases remaining under investigation.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
