Good morning, Ross County. Two wheels are better than none as our local libraries transform into cycling hubs with their innovative "Book-a-Bike" program. Library cardholders can now check out bicycles for up to two hours through the On Bike Share app, with kiosks popping up at multiple locations including the YMCA and Health District. For those who prefer keeping their feet on the ground, weekly social strolls through downtown every Wednesday morning offer another way to enjoy our community spaces.

July brings both reflection and celebration as Independence Day approaches. While a Saint Bernard named "Muffet" once reigned as grand champion of Chillicothe's 1968 pet parade in Yoctangee Park, today's headlines include calls for boycotting July 4th celebrations and veterans sharing perspectives on international relations. Meanwhile, local authorities continue investigating after a pedestrian was struck at a crosswalk when a driver accidentally accelerated.

This initiative is part of a broader community collaboration to promote cycling, with repair stations installed along trails and at libraries. For those who prefer walking, the library also hosts weekly social strolls through downtown every Wednesday morning.

Burgess reminds readers that Iranian citizens are not America's enemies and warns that military confrontation risks nuclear escalation with Iran's allies. As Americans celebrate independence, he calls for respecting the sovereignty of all nations and returning to principles of international cooperation.

đŸ‡ē🇸 Americans urged to boycott July 4th celebrations nationwide. The People's Union USA is calling for participants to skip parades, fireworks shows, and flag displays during Independence Day. Organizer John Schwarz encourages people to stay home with family and only support small businesses instead of corporations. The boycott cites ICE arrests, corporate actions, and protest backlash as reasons, with Schwarz declaring "there is no independence to celebrate right now." This follows the group's previous boycotts of major retailers like Target, Walmart, and McDonald's, which have reportedly impacted those companies' sales.

🐾 Chillicothe's 1968 pet parade crowned a Saint Bernard grand champion. The annual tradition in Yoctangee Park featured pets of all sizes, from tiny fish to a full-sized horse. Seven-year-old Trina Hines and her Saint Bernard "Muffet" took home the top honor among the diverse competitors. Other winners included the "most unusual" Siberian Husky, "best dressed" Scottie, and "largest" entry Pal the horse. The recreation department-sponsored event had changed its judging format in 1965 to evaluate each category individually rather than judging all participants at once.
