A 56-year-old Orient woman, Lori Schmidt, died Saturday when a Nissan Versa driven by 78-year-old David Babcock struck the Can-Am Spyder motorcycle she was riding on with her husband. Patrick Schmidt, 61, who was operating the motorcycle, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The collision occurred around 1:00 p.m. on State Route 28 in Ross County's Buckskin Township, shutting down the highway for over three hours. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues investigating the cause of the crash.
