📉 Unemployment drop dance

Ross County • January 27, 2025

Good morning, Ross County. In a stunning economic plot twist that feels like a Uno reverse card, Ohio's unemployment claims just took a nosedive, plunging nearly 40% in a single week. While our neighbors in West Virginia are seeing their claims surge, the Buckeye State is bucking the national trend with numbers that would make any economist do a double-take.

Meanwhile, the victory bells are ringing at Adena, where Coach Day just joined the century club with win number 100. The Warriors' triumph, powered by Marly Halcomb's 17-point performance, came just as local drivers are feeling a different kind of number - a 17-cent jump at the gas pumps. Talk about a week of ups and downs!

📊 Ohio jobless claims plunge nearly 40% in single week. New unemployment filings in the state dropped to 8,485 last week, a significant decrease from 13,940 the week before. The trend contrasts with national numbers, where U.S. claims rose by 6,000 to reach 223,000. While West Virginia saw unemployment claims surge by 43.3%, South Carolina emerged as the bright spot with claims plummeting by 57.7%. These figures, reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, serve as a key indicator of layoff trends across the country.
