🥚 Egg-citing entertainment

Ross County • January 10, 2025

Good morning, Ross County. Remember when eggs were just a humble breakfast staple? Those days feel as distant as bell-bottom jeans, with prices soaring 38% nationwide and some regions shelling out nearly $9 per dozen. The culprit? A perfect storm of bird flu outbreaks, rising costs, and new regulations has turned your morning omelet into a luxury item that would make even Gordon Ramsay flinch.

But while egg prices may have us feeling scrambled, our local entertainment scene is serving up the perfect antidote to winter doldrums. From JRDN & CO.'s smooth jazz at The Page to belly laughs at Stockroom601's open mic night, Chillicothe is cooking up a weekend that promises to be more exciting than a farmers' market bidding war. And with ABBAFAB's upcoming tribute show, we'll soon be dancing away those grocery bill blues.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🥚 Egg prices crack wallets as costs soar 38% nationwide. The surge, driven primarily by a devastating bird flu outbreak, has pushed average dozen prices to $3.65, with some regions seeing costs skyrocket to nearly $9. The highly contagious H5N1 virus has affected more than 130 million poultry across all 50 states since January 2022, forcing massive culling of infected flocks. Rising operational costs, including gas and labor, combined with state-level animal welfare laws have further squeezed supplies. Industry experts warn prices may worsen before improving, with some stores already limiting purchases to prevent hoarding.
