Good morning, Preble County. The numbers are stark and sobering – a 42% surge in OVI incidents across Montgomery County this year. With 125 impaired driving enforcement cases already documented, Sheriff Rob Streck's warning that each stop represents a potentially deadly situation serves as a critical reminder as we head into the final weeks of summer travel. The upcoming "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign couldn't arrive at a more necessary moment.

Beyond road safety concerns, our communities face financial crossroads as Montgomery County commissioners weigh a $32 million decision on homeowner tax credits that could significantly impact local services. Meanwhile, the Arcanum Public Library wraps up its vibrant "Color Our World" summer program with a celebratory finale on August 2, marking the conclusion of a season filled with dance, music, and creativity that brought the community together through the warmth of shared experiences.

🚨 Montgomery County's OVI incidents skyrocket by 42% in alarming trend. Sheriff's deputies have documented 125 impaired driving enforcement incidents this year compared to just 88 during the same period last year. Sheriff Rob Streck warns these numbers "should be a wake-up call," emphasizing that each stop represents a potentially deadly situation. The Sheriff's Office urges residents to never drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or even certain medications, and to always have alternative transportation plans. Officials will participate in the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign running from August through early September to combat this concerning increase.

💰 Montgomery County faces $32 million tax credit dilemma. New state budget allows county commissioners to create "piggyback" programs that would double homeowner tax credits, but at a significant cost to local services. The expanded programs would impact every taxing authority in the county, with Montgomery County Human Services ($4.2 million), Centerville schools ($3.1 million), and Dayton schools ($3 million) facing the largest cuts. County Auditor Karl Keith argues these programs should be state-funded rather than placing the burden on local governments. Commissioners are still contemplating whether to implement these optional tax relief measures.
