The halls of National Trail Middle School are buzzing with achievement as dozens of students across grades 5-8 earned spots on the Principal's and Superintendent's Honor Rolls for the third quarter. These young scholars aren't just excelling in academics—they're building the foundation for bright futures while making their families and community proud. Their dedication deserves our collective applause as they navigate the crucial middle school years with such impressive results.

Summer entertainment is heating up across our region with hometown hero Scotty Bratcher returning to the Sorg Opera House on June 7 for what promises to be an unforgettable homecoming concert. Fans are traveling from multiple states to witness this milestone performance. Meanwhile, West Alexandria is transforming into festival central as the Old Fashioned Jamboree returns May 29-31 with rides, food, and family entertainment—the perfect kickoff to summer festivities throughout our county.

📚 National Trail Middle School celebrates academic excellence with honor rolls. The school recognized students from grades 5-8 who achieved Principal's Honor Roll and Superintendent's Honor Roll status for the third quarter of the 2024-2025 school year. Dozens of students across all four grade levels were acknowledged for their outstanding academic achievements. The announcement also highlighted students with perfect attendance records. The comprehensive list showcases the educational accomplishments of numerous young scholars at the New Paris institution.

🎸 Middletown native Scotty Bratcher returns home for milestone concert. The accomplished musician will perform at the historic Sorg Opera House on June 7, fulfilling a childhood dream. Fans are traveling from multiple states to witness this special homecoming show, which Bratcher calls "a great culmination of everything I've strived for." Between touring with famous acts like Ted Nugent and Buddy Guy, Bratcher now balances his music career with fatherhood, crediting his own father's sacrifices for his success.

🎡 Small town's Old Fashioned Jamboree returns to kick off summer. The West Alexandria Celebration Committee is hosting the annual event from May 29-31 in the heart of town. Visitors can enjoy rides, food, and family-friendly entertainment on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5-10pm and Saturday from 2-10pm. Ride tickets cost $3 each or 10 for $28, with unlimited ride wristbands available on Thursday for $25. Organizers look forward to welcoming visitors from across the region.

🙏 In Remembrance

Donald Kinsler

Donald "Ralph" Kinsler, 85, of Eldorado, passed away on May 22, 2025, at his home. Born in Stonega, Virginia in 1940, he retired from Chrysler Corporation after 30 years of service. Ralph enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, gardening, and had a deep love for the mountains of his childhood in Virginia. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his children Carl and Milly Ellen, four grandchildren, a sister, and many other relatives and friends. Private services will be held at the family's convenience.

Donald Kinsler

William Earl George

William Earl George, 87, of Camden, passed away on May 23, 2025, at home surrounded by family. A U.S. Army veteran and master mechanic, Earl co-owned George Brother's Garage for 50 years and was known for crafting show wagons and cornhole sets. He was a devoted husband to Sandra Sue Faris for 60 years, a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church, and an avid haflinger horse enthusiast who regularly participated in local fairs. Earl is survived by his son, grandchildren, great-grandsons, one brother, and numerous other family members and friends.
