🏙️ Middletown moves

Good morning, Preble County. Strategically positioned between Cincinnati and Dayton, Middletown is making bold moves to attract developers with its first-ever real estate forum. The city's pitch? Hundreds of available infill lots, downtown buildings ripe for transformation, and affordable housing plans targeting the "missing middle" workforce. It's a fascinating example of how smaller cities are reimagining their economic futures by leveraging their geographic advantages and existing infrastructure.

Meanwhile, change continues at Miami University where the Senate debates the future of its diversity committee following recent state legislation, and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion commemorates its 56-year legacy before closing in June. The emotional "Through the Years" event drew over 200 attendees, with former director Gerald Yearwood encouraging students to persevere despite the center's physical closure. On the academic front, the university is considering launching a Bachelor of Science in artificial intelligence — raising thoughtful questions about AI's place in higher education.

🏙️ Middletown woos developers with first-ever real estate forum. The successful event brought together industry professionals to discuss commercial, residential, and industrial development opportunities in the strategically located city. Director Lisha Morlan emphasized Middletown's prime position between Cincinnati and Dayton, highlighting hundreds of available infill lots and downtown buildings ripe for development. The city plans to repurpose blighted areas with new affordable housing in the $150,000-$275,000 range, targeting the "missing middle" workforce. With developable land along I-75 and proximity to major industrial suppliers, Middletown is positioning itself as a key player in the region's economic future.

🎓 Miami University Senate debates diversity committee's future amid state changes. Senators expressed concerns about closing the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion following Senate Bill 1, which already shuttered two campus diversity offices. A proposed replacement committee on Civic Belonging and Community Pluralism was introduced as a more efficient alternative. The Senate also considered a new Bachelor of Science in artificial intelligence, with some questioning whether AI deserves its own major rather than integration across disciplines. Additional proposals included changes to attendance policies for student athletes and a resolution urging the creation of a Mutual Academic Defense Compact.
