🦸 Heroes next door

Preble County • March 31, 2025

Good morning, Preble County. Heroes don't always wear capes—sometimes they're simply students checking the mail. Just ask the Miami University instructor whose life was saved when Reed Stewart and Brayden Osborne sprang into action with life-saving CPR during a cardiac emergency. Thanks to their quick thinking, a family "got to have Christmas" with their loved one, proving that ordinary moments can transform into extraordinary acts of courage when seconds count.

The spirit of service runs deep throughout our community this week. Eaton's Scott Brubaker was honored as Employee of the Year for his impactful public works leadership, while Montgomery County is tackling its stray dog crisis head-on with a new collaborative task force. With shelter space for just 80 animals in a county housing over 140,000 dogs, this initiative couldn't come at a more crucial time for both public health and our four-legged friends.

❤️‍🩹 Two students saved professor's life with quick CPR action. Reed Stewart and Brayden Osborne performed life-saving CPR on a Miami University instructor who collapsed from a cardiac event outside Mosler Hall in December. Stewart, working in the mailroom, and Osborne, who happened to be passing by, took turns performing compressions until the instructor began breathing again. The grateful faculty member later emailed Stewart saying that because of their actions, his family "got to have Christmas with him." After five days in the ICU, the instructor is now on the road to recovery.
