Good morning, Powell. The future of Ohio's vast forest landscapes is in your hands. With over 200,000 acres of state forests waiting for public input, the ODNR Division of Forestry is rolling out the welcome mat at open houses across the state this September. These sessions offer a rare opportunity to directly shape the sustainable management of these natural treasures—from recreational activities to timber harvesting practices—that will impact generations to come.
Tragedy struck Tuesday morning when a train collided with a Chevrolet Silverado at the Northwest Parkway and Leap Road intersection in nearby Hilliard. As the community processes this alarming incident, we're also remembering the remarkable life of Patricia Opelt, whose 40-year career at Select Sires and decades of service at Der Dutchman restaurant wove her deeply into the fabric of Plain City. Her love of flowers, plants, and passionate support of the New England Patriots leaves a colorful legacy worth celebrating.

🌲 Ohio invites public to shape the future of state forests. The ODNR Division of Forestry is hosting open house events from September 2-4, 2025, where citizens can learn about and provide input on the Annual Work Plan for State Forests. These plans guide management activities across 24 state forests covering more than 200,000 acres in Ohio. Open houses in Chillicothe, Athens, and Findlay will allow residents to ask questions about sustainable forestry practices, recreation, and timber harvesting. Public comments will be accepted until October 5, 2025, either at these events or through an online form.
🌸 Patricia Opelt's community-centered life ended August 2 at Kobacker House. The longtime Plain City resident worked over 40 years at Select Sires Inc. and decades as a waitress at Der Dutchman restaurant, building meaningful friendships throughout her career. Known for her strong work ethic, Pat loved plants, flowers, and was an avid NFL fan with special affection for the New England Patriots. A Celebration of Life will be held August 10 at the Select Sires Kellgren Center, with memorial donations directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
🚂 Train slams into pickup truck, sending one to hospital. The collision occurred Tuesday morning at Northwest Parkway and Leap Road in Hilliard, Ohio. Photos shared by Norwich Township Fire Department show a black Chevrolet Silverado with extensive damage. Police reported the male driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
